The Keany Story
The Keany story is a classic American Family Business success story. Thirty years ago, a young man, encouraged by his father, started selling produce from the back of a van. He had limited experience in the produce business but he and his brothers had worked in their father’s food service business since their early teens. His father said, “If you focus on high quality food and honest dealings with your customers, you’ll be successful. After all, everybody has to eat!”

The growth years
As more restaurants and hotels in D.C., Virginia and Maryland heard about the produce business---the way it should be, Kevin was joined by his brothers Chris, Dan and Ted. Their father, Patrick Keany, also continued his support of the growing business.
Thirty years later, their reputation for providing their customers with personal service, where chefs and food professionals can always “talk to the owner” and be assured of receiving the finest quality produce at a fair price, has made Keany Produce the purveyor of choice for the Washington area’s finest hotels and restaurants.

Our commitment to Excellence in Customer responsiveness Offices at Keany are staffed 24 hours a day and Keany operates a fleet of 100 plus refrigerated trucks delivering to customers in Washington, Baltimore, Frederick, Md., Philadelphia, Pa., Northern Virginia, Richmond, and the Eastern Shore six days a week.
Our new 90 thousand square feet state-of-the art facility allows us to stock the widest variety and highest volume of the best and freshest fruits, vegetables and related food items in the market.

The early days
Kevin Keany began Keany Produce Co. in 1978 in a small warehouse in the Washington, D.C. market. Starting well before dawn each day and working late into the afternoon, he brought to his customers a spirit of personal attention and honest dealing. Combined with offering the best quality produce he could personally select, the one man business flourished.
