Chef Kenny Clay started his Culinary Career at the age of 17 working in Capital Hill area of the District of Columbia. He started his career not knowing which direction he would like to pursue. Here he found his passion, focus, and dream. Here in Capital Hill he started to look up at the Chefs he worked under. After being guided by his Chefs he decided to take his career to the next level by attending the Washington Culinary School in DC. Here Chef Clay really found his calling and drive for culinary arts. After graduation he worked at several hotels in DC



After working in hotels Chef Clay took his career onto a different road and starting working for the Clyde’s Restaurants Group. Chef Clay has currently worked for four different Clyde’s Restaurants throughout his career. He was the Sous Chef for Old Ebbit Grill for a few years before taking on the Executive Chef position at the Clyde’s Columbia location for 10 years. After working at Clyde’s Columbia he decided to move onto a new challenge and took over as the Executive Chef at the Rusty Scupper in Baltimore. Here Chef Clay ran the show for a year or so but missed Clyde’s and more importantly Clyde’s missed him. Present Day Chef Clay had the opportunity to help plan and open the Clyde’s Gallery Place Restaurant in Washington, DC. He has currently ran this restaurant for the past three years. He oversees a staff of 80 cooks, prep cooks, and dishwashers and they seat over 675 people in one seating.

Chef Clay is married and has two daughters. In his spare time he likes to read, workout and is an avid chess player.

When speaking to Chef Clay the biggest thing that stands out is his drive, passion, and his work ethic. He credits his hard work ethic to his father. Kenny’s big focus is on fresh local produce and working and cooking with the seasons, always striving for the freshest ingredients he can use.
