Executive Chef Eugene Peay
Joe's Market, Richmond, Va

Tucked away in a quiet neighborhood is a unique upscale grocery store called Joe's Market. One of the reasons this market is so unique is due to the culinary expertise of Executive Chef Eugene Peay. Born & raised in Richmond, Va., Chef Eugene has brought quite a bit of experience with him. He graduated from the Baltimore International Culinary School where he developed an art of making just about everything " from scratch." Chef Eugene's philosophy of cooking is based on " no shortcuts" theory-which is probably the reason the cases at Joe's Market are constantly needing to be replenished..

Chef Eugene's love of food was fueled by an internship in Dublin, Ireland. It was there that he learned first hand how to make fresh stocks for soups by actually going out to the fields to pick his own vegetables for the numerous dishes he had to prepare. After his intensive training at both the culinary school in Baltimore and Dublin, Eugene ventured out to the restaurant in Charles City, Va called Indian Fields Tavern. He served as executive chef at the Tavern & then worked in the Shockhoe Bottom area of Richmond before starting his career six years ago at Joe's. His culinary talents have helped make Joe's Market a destination spot for gourmet meals. Chef Eugene has developed numerous recipes-all "from scratch" for the many repeat customers at Joe's Market!







When not behind the scenes at Joe's, Eugene spends his time with his bride of 10 years,Fatimah, and his two children, Kamryn and Eugene IV. He also loves to watch football[a huge Buffalo Bills fan] and basketball. One day he would love to own a family style restaurant where he & his wife, also a former chef, could display the culinary cuisine which he describes as southern style with a classical twist! Chef Eugene loves everything about his profession even though at times it can be very demanding. He believes the seasonal changes keeps his ideas fresh. He especially loves seeing the familiar faces of the many customers who frequent Joe's Market. Next time you're in the neighborhood stop by & say hello to the smiling face behind the counter!

Joe's Market is located at 400 Libbie Avenue in Richmond, Va. Their hours of operation are: Monday thru Saturday 6 AM -8 PM
